Home 1971 XY Falcon 500

For those of you not familiar with Australian motor vehicles this car is the base model of the famed Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III. In absolute base model, in Australia known as the 'poverty pack', standard equipment was a 200ci straight six motor with choice of three speed column shift manual or auto transmission and a bench front seat.
This particular vehicle was optioned with a 302ci 'Windsor' V8 engine and four speed floor shifted manual transmission. However, being the 500 model a centre console was not standard fitment but was standard on the next level in the range the Fairmont. The paint is Polar White and the interior has been re-trimmed but is very close to the original Navy. Overall this car is close to original and the owner says the original rims and star caps are in the shed, as well as the standard springs as the car has been lowered slightly to enhance appearance and handling. The paint as can be seen is the original lacquer and is in need of a redo. The vehicle is a genuine one owner and the delivery handbook is in the glove-box. It is affectionately known as 'Henry'.
After a number of years being stored the car was surprisingly co-operative in getting back onto the road. Replace the flexible fuel lines, blow through the lines, add some quality petrol, prime the fuel system, change the oil filter and prime the system, oil the bores and clean the plugs and hit the key. It started on the second rotation. The only real issue was the old coolant in the engine had turned to gel in the top radiator hose causing a minor overheat while the car was on the blocks. The thermostat housing and hose were removed, cleaned, a new thermostat for well being, refill the system and try again with no problems. The car was taken out on the road and after a few laps around the block and a check over was driven for over thirty miles with no faults and run as good as it used to according to the owner.
Maybe with a bit of love and some money this one can get back to it's former glory.
